100% Zakat policy
MB Trust operates a 100% donation policy, so every pound of Zakat you give reaches an eligible recipient. All administration, fundraising and running costs are covered by Gift Aid and by our volunteers, never by your donations.
Eight categories
Zakat is distributed only to the eight categories specified in Surah At-Tawbah (9:60): the poor, the needy, those employed to collect Zakat (i.e. those instructed by the caliph for the Muslims to collect the Zakat, this is not applicable in our times), those whose hearts are to be reconciled, to free captives, those in debt, in the cause of Allah, and the wayfarer.
Segregation of funds
Zakat funds are handled in accordance with Islamic guidelines and are never placed in interest-bearing products. Distributions are tracked and audited annually.
Shariah verification
Our Zakat policy is reviewed annually by an independent Shariah board of qualified scholars.
Timeliness
We aim to distribute all collected Zakat within 12 months of receipt, in line with scholarly guidance, unless earmarked for an urgent project already underway.
